Tour Autana and Lago Leopoldo

6Days – 5 Nights

 

The tour to Autana gives us the wonderful opportunity to get to know the sacred mountain of the Piaroa Indians. For them this was the great tree of life, containing all the fruits and abundance. 
It is a trip to the Precambrian and to an monument that is also considered World Heritage by UNESCO. Along the route are seen Tepuyan formations through the Amazon rainforest. Rivers such as Orinoco, Sipapo and Autana will be navigated. On the river route, there are freshwater beaches, immense wooded lots, authentic rocks, great variety of birds, Tepuy Autana from its main viewpoint:  Mount Wahari and finally to the mysterious Lago Leopoldo (Paraka-wachoi), also sacred for the Piaroas, and especially for the shamans of this lung of the world, the great Amazonas.

 

 

DAY 1

The Adventure begins with the reception at the Airport, Terminal or at the agreed meeting point the day the Tour is starting. 
We leave to the Port of Samariapo, around 1hour outside of Puerto Ayacucho, for starting our river route. We will pass through the Orinoco River, the Sipapo Riverand the Autana River. Lunch will be served in a small stop during the Tour on the River. We will be on the River in total around 5 hours till we reach to the Campsite in the Indigenous Community of Raudal de Ceguera, which has a spectacular panoramic view to the Tepuyes Cara de Indio, Wahari and Autana. 
Reaching the Camp and if the weather permits we can enjoy a refreshing bath in the Rapids of the Autana River at Raudal de Ceguera. 
We will have our dinner and sleep during the Night in hammocks with mosquito nets.

 

 

DAY 2

The breakfast is served very early for leaving in time. For reaching our next camp, we need several hours of pasing different rivers and wooded paths of the deep jungle. 
After 3 hours passing through small rivers on the boat enjoying the unice landscape of jungle, river and Tepuyes in the backround, we reach the place where we will start a 4 hours hike through the jungle alongside the river that continues until arriving at Campamento Caño Zorro, a charming and enigmatic place inside the jungle which allows us the view on Autana from another perspective and also has waterfalls and a huge pool of redish water very particular and energeticziced by the crystal quartz to its surroundings. 
After a nice bath, we enjoy a considered dinner and will rest overnight in tents or hammocks with mosquito nets.

 

 

DAY 3

After breakfast, we start the hike from the campsite to Lago Leopoldo, at a good pace 1 hour approximately. Here you can enjoy for a while and take advantage of the great opportunity in this sacred lake of connection with the ancestors that vibrate their songs of protection in this enigmatic energetic point of the Amazon.
We will return to Campamento Caño Zorro for having a delicious lunch near the great waterfall of this campsite. We enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring the area around respecting its nature or just have a nice time in the huge natural pool that doesn’t seem to have a bottom.
We will have our dinner at the end of this adventurous day and watch the stars beeing far away from civilisation or enjoy at the Campfire before going to sleep. 

 

 

DAY 4

We have our breakfast and start returning the whole way back where we started our Trek. There awaits us the boat for reaching to the community of Raudal de Ceguera. 
Once we are back in the first Campsite we have our lunch and can share our personal experience inside the jungle and visit to the holy places of the Piaroa Tribe with the community and listen to their interessting storys and personal experience visiting these places. 
After having dinner we rest the night in our hammocks. 

 

 

                                                                                     DAY 5

After the breakfast early in the morning, we will start the Tour to the main viewpoint of Autana, if we run with luck we can see Toucans, Macaws and Parrots alongside the River with other birds in the wooded path from the boat. 
A walk in the jungle accompanied by an Indigenous Guide awaits us, around 2 hours going up and 2 hours back, for reaching finally the Wahari viewpoint and have a breathtaking view on Autana. Also of the immense jungle with its rivers, our greatest reserve of oxygen of the planet, the vegetal lung of the world, the most precious treasure of all times.
Beeing back in Raudal de Ceguera we can enjoy our free time swimming in the Lagoon of the Autana River or just contemplate the setting of the sacred Montain Autana watching over the whole area.
After the sunset we will have a nice dinner and can enjoy the nightsky feeling happy about beeing part of an extraordinary experience.

 

 

 

DAY 6

After breakfast, we are back on the Autana River towards western civilisation, enjoying its settings for a last time. We have lunch in the bongo or on one of the huge stones inside the Sipapo River doing a small stop , obviously everything depends on the weather. Arriving in Puerto Samariapo the transportation awaits us for going back to Puerto Ayacucho where the Tour officially ends.
